Ingrown Hair Removal w/ Aerolase

Treatment is targeting the PFB lesions

WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER THIS TREATMENT?

Pseudofolliculitis Barbae, commonly known as PFB, is a widespread skin disorder that affects a significant portion of individuals with Fitzpatrick skin types IV to VI. This condition, which is a result of persistent shaving, can cause ingrown hairs and bumps mainly on areas such as the face, neck, and body.

Unfortunately, the physical results of PFB include significant discomfort and irritation, but it’s the emotional and psychological effects that can be even more challenging. Multiple studies indicate that individuals with PFB tend to report experiencing moderate to severe negative impacts on their self-esteem, with up to 60% being affected by the condition.

Sadly, conventional treatments such as electrolysis and depilatory creams have proven to be ineffective and may even worsen some symptoms. However, on a positive note, laser treatments has been identified as the most successful treatment for PFB.

What are the results of the Laser Treatment?

Actually, the Neo Elite is the safest laser in the industry for darker skin types or tanned skin. This is because of MicroPulse-1064 technology, which essentially eliminates treatment pain while minimizing the chances of hyper- and/ or hypo-pigmentation.

What causes PFB AKA FOLLICULITIS?

This condition is characterized by the development of painful and itchy papules, pustules, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation due to the curling of hairs grown under the skin.

These symptoms are commonly observed in the beard area, along with other regions of the body where terminal hairs are removed such as underarms and bikini area. I

The prime triggering factor for this condition often results from the shaving of terminal hair.

what should i expect after treatment?

Laser treatments can be a great way to take care of your skin and prevent future lesions. Plus, they can also help to clear up any post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that may be caused by PFB. One of the most positive side effects of laser treatments is that they can help with acne and reducing the size of your pores, which can help to prevent future occurrences of PFB. How does the laser work?

The laser light superheats the curled up hair shaft and the follicle destroying both the source of inflammation and inflamed papule.

Three (3) treatments in two (2) to three week intervals are typically required for meaningful improvement, but additional treatments may be required.

Realistic expectations

There is a risk in hair reduction in the beard area after facial treatments particularly with men with facial hair who want to keep the beard in the area.  If you want to keep the hair we can section off an area to focus on the ingrown, but that pinpointed area will no regrown hair in the same manner as the rest of the beard.

Does it hurt?

Aerolase technology provides an exceptional treatment experience with minimal sensitivity and scarcely discernible thermal effect. The Neo Elite’s pioneering MicroPulse-1064 technology effectively caters to even darker skin tones, without the requirement for any cooling gels or sprays, thereby streamlining the treatment process, reducing expenses, and ensuring a neat and organized procedure.

Mandatory Preparation for laser treatment on your face include:

First and foremost, it is recommended that you stop taking Accutane treatments at least six months prior to the appointment, in order to avoid any possible side effects or complications. It is also important to be aware of potential sensitivities that may arise from being exposed to the sun or using photosynthesizing drugs, so be sure to avoid these at least two weeks before your appointment.

ABSOLUTELY NO RETINOL FOR 24 -48 HOURS  BEFORE!!

Additionally, it is recommended to avoid harsh cosmetics and instead focus on using gentle skincare products in the days leading up to your appointment.

Most importantly, do not forget to apply sunscreen with at least SPF30 at least 24-48 hours before the treatment and address any inflammatory skin conditions that may be present with medication prior to your appointment. By taking these steps, you can help ensure the best possible outcome for your laser treatment.

What are the Pre-Care Instructions?

Before the procedure, quit using skincare products with retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide for at least a week, including OTC products. Let us know if you have a history of cold sores. Don’t tan or get sunburned a week in advance, and come without makeup if possible. You’ll feel a mild warming sensation and minimal redness during the procedure; it’s a gentler experience than other lasers.

Is there any Post care for the pfb Laser Treatment?

To achieve ideal results, avoid using skincare products with certain ingredients for 48-72 hours after Aerolase treatment.
